NELSON MANDELA: DEAD AT 95

Today, Nelson Mandela, the revered & beloved South African anti-apartheid icon who became the country's first black president, died, at the age of 95, in his native country Thursday.

Freedom fighter, statesman, moral compass and South Africa's symbol of the struggle against racial oppression.  That was Nelson Mandela, who emerged from prison after 27 years to lead his country out of decades of apartheid.

His message of reconciliation, not vengeance, inspired the world after he negotiated a peaceful end to segregation and urged forgiveness for the white government that imprisoned him.

"As I walked out the door toward the gate that would lead to my freedom, I knew if I didn't leave my bitterness and hatred behind, I'd still be in prison," Mandela said after he was freed in in 1990.

Mandela has also procured a number of awards for his humanitarian efforts and he won the Nobel Peace Prize in 1993, one of his many accolades.

He would go on to become South Africa’s first Black president.

The time for the healing of the wounds has come,” he said in his acceptance speech in 1994. “The moment to bridge the chasms that divide us has come. We have, at last, achieved our political emancipation.

Mandela, battled health issues in recent years, including a recurring lung infection that led to numerous hospitalizations.

Despite rare public appearances, he held a special place in the consciousness of the nation and the world.

Mandela's impact on mankind will not be forgotten......

NEW MUSIC: $PACE LIGHTYEAR aka IVAN OOZE "GET ME OUT THE WAY"

The sound of rap and hip-hop is evolving at a rapid rate due to the influences of technology and those who dabble around with a different sound, but just couldn't find the formula.

Auto-tune has been used in music for decades and with the most recent success of T-Pain and Future, other artists are creating a sound that is similar to what brought success to the predecessors.  Enter, $pace Lightyear aka Ivan Ooze, the Washington D.C. native, who brings forth, "Get Me Out The Way", a very infectious track that is eerie in its sound, yet entrancing.

"Get Me Out The Way" pierces through the ears and penetrates through the skull, grabbing your brain organ, causing a hypnotizing nod of the entire cranium.  Easily a track that has to be played during your own meditation period; it's clear that the influence is from that of the new sound of rap and hip-hop; and $pace Lightyear is yet the newest solider on the frontline.

$pace Lightyear could very well be the future if he sticks to creating that hypnotic sound.

SPORTS: REDSKINS LOSE TO VIKINGS ON THURSDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL

Losing to a 1-7 team is shame
There's nothing more painful than seeing our beloved Washington Redskins taking L's like a kid taking Flintstones vitamins, but to see them take an L on Thursday Night Football to the lowly 1-7 Minnesota Vikings when the team is supposed to be putting together a run to salvage the season is more disturbing.

Just when you thought the 'Skins had the game in control with a balanced run and passing attack, SOMETHING went wrong.  They controlled the time of possession, Alfred Morris was tearing up the field, Robert Griffin III was in mode, and yet, they lose.

What the hell is going on with these Washington Redskins?

MUSIC VIDEO: FOOLAZZ RICO "OOH KILL EM"

Foolazz Rico does it again with "Ooh Kill Em", self-proclaiming himself as one of D.C.'s Top 5 rappers, at the same time calling out a more popular name in the game for lacking the talent to hold his current position.

Spitting over a mixed sample of Eminem's "Forgot About Dre", Rico comes with rapid fire lyrics putting himself head and shoulders above who he sees as competition, whether they reside in the D.C. area or the mainstream industry.

Pay close attention of the graffiti in the visual, and the homage paid to the Godfather of Go-Go, Chuck Brown.

The visual was shot and edited by Joe Real of Studio Real.

NEW MUSIC: KELLEY KASH "I LIKE THE VIEW"

D.C. artist, Kelley Kash, speaks his mind on the track, "I Like The View", on a subject that many music purest have simply kept to themselves or quietly discussed in circles; and that's that music has become one dimensional, materialistic, and full of phony, thug rappers who are so consumed in their own gimmick, they lost perception of who they are as a person.

From Kelley Kash's position and train of thought, none of these artists can make QUALITY music on his level, thus, he's ABOVE them musically, and he LIKES THE VIEW.

NEW MUSIC: SOUTHEAST SLIM "FOREVER HITTER QUITTER" (ADDRESSING WALE)

Taken from Soundcloud:
If anyone knows Southeast (aka Sace) they know that there was a point in time when he and Wale were 'thick as thieves' on the D.C. hip-hop scene; then something "happened".  Nobody really knows what "happened," but Wale blew up and Sace, kinda, didn't.

On this track titled, "Forever Hitter Quitter", Sace touches on a few topics that may have contributed to his "time" coming now and not "earlier".

As of 28 October 2013, Wale has seemingly deleted his Twitter account possibly due to the release of the song.  It is widely speculated that Wale deleted the account because he was being bombarded with Redskins jokes and didn't want to defend the home team; but then there's Forever Hitter Quitter, that has shed some light on the fallout between he and a "former" associate, and he does not feel that he has to address it.  Well, the streets and Twitter are having fun with the "coincidence" of Wale's account being deleted at the same time someone so close to him releases a track addressing his behavior and how he deals with people from home since gaining national attention.

Let's give it a few to see how Wale responds to the track from Southeast Slim, if he does at all, and what his reasoning for his Twitter account to either be deleted or put into limbo.  Regardless of his reason, people will say he ran from the situation instead of facing it straight on.

Stand as One during the Government Shutdown

I don't want to get all preachy about this situation, because not everyone is affected by the Government shutting down by the hands of the Republicans in an attempt to repeal "ObamaCare"; but this message is inspired by the Government shutdown and is for everyone who lives in a struggle or are witnesses to someone living a struggle.

In times like this, it's essential that we all look out for one another. That "every man for thy self" mentality has to be put to bed. Since those that "look down" upon us don't care enough to look out for us, it's up to us to have one another's back in these trying times. KEYWORD: US

There is no more "money to burn" for enjoyment, especially if you're living paycheck to paycheck. Those nights partying and going to the bar, spending money frivolously are just about over. Now, we all have to create a budget, follow it, and monitor it. It's easy to say put money aside for rainy days, but it's really not; especially if you're not disciplined to do so. But now, it's time to discipline yourself on putting money "under the mattress" and forgetting about it. Even if you have to go to your bank, and create an interest bearing account for that rainy day funds, do so. Putting money away in an interest bearing account helps your money grow. Don't spend the interest just because you have it, use your discipline to stack what you receive in interest and watch it grow each money. But DISCIPLINE is what we all will have to act on in order to survive this grey moment in our country, economy, and lives. KEYWORD: DISCIPLINE

It doesn't stop with just discipline, it also involves what was mentioned earlier with everyone working together to support one another. Discipline and teamwork creates a victory for the team. Working together will most certainly achieve success for everyone involved. Don't worry about how much of an effort you put into the team effort to win at this dirty game; as long as an effort was made along with that of your teammates, will we all come out of this situation holding our heads high.

Do not allow this situation to stress you because you don't have what you usually have or used to getting/expecting what you usually get/expect. It's not like that anymore, those days are over. Yet, this is a temporary problem that those folks we put in office will find a temporary fix for. It's up to us to know who we are voting for and what their agendas are, because what they do on the local and national level affects us all; especially on the local level. But voting is another topic of discussion.

Try to stick it out for as long as you can, utilizing your remaining resources, until you absolutely have to request assistance from your peers. It's funny how we all can be buddy-buddy with one another, yet, when we see our "buddy" sinking, we stand on the sideline and watch. Not all of us become spectators in those situations, but now we, as a collective, have to be heroes to one another and save the day for those in distress. No one should bear the burden alone, each person, as a collective, should be able to put a little in to create the whole, which is needed to help out. KEYWORD: COLLECTIVE

Hopefully, this grey moment shouldn't last too long, but if it does, we need to identify those who need the most help, stand them up, so they can continue to live, so we all can continue to stand shoulder to shoulder, and back to back, to weather this storm.

So here's the challenge, try to discipline your spending habits, budget, and put something away. Don't be ashamed or embarrassed to ask for assistance when times get real rough. Don't be a spectator, help those that you deem your friends when you see them hurting. No one is going to help us, but us. But if you still believe that all is well and that you're "shutdown proof", think again, because no one is immune to being cut off from money. Just like, have you ever heard of a drug kingpin living to be old? Nope, they either got caught up by the system/game and got laid down, or they got put away. There are no supermen in this situation, except for those calling the shots, and none of us are calling the shots. Keep thinking that way, and see what happens. Keep living your life like you in a rap video, and see that one day you're going to wake up dusty, funky, and looking for a handout.

We have to function as a collective to make it. No more jealously, no more self-centeredness, no more "every man for thy self". If we can't look out for one another, who will? This situation right now, proves that the Government won't look out for us, so stop depending on them to do so.

United We Stand, United We Fall.

Tiger Woods is STILL a N* Word to Many

Regardless of how much money a black man makes/has, in the eyes of anyone non-black, you are a NIGGER. Even the non-whites, meaning, Hispanics, and any other ethnic race that did not originate from Europe, sees blacks as inferior to them because they wish to be equal with whites, or "the team that's winning". It's their way of "kicking us while we're down and trying to get up"; it'll look cool to them and those they are trying to impress. It's a sick, demented, way of climbing the racial and social ladder, to impress those you see as "the master", "the boss of things".

This is not the first time, in public, Tiger Woods has been put "in place", by classifying him by the foods people of darker skin color tend to eat. The apology is hollow; it means nothing. The apology Sergio made is just an attempt to maintain whatever sponsorship and endorsements he may have, and to take the heat off the clubhouse; because I'm pretty sure many in the clubhouse feel the same way about Tiger. When Fuzzy Zoeller made the same type comment in 1997 after Tiger won The Masters, Zoeller lost endorsements; so Sergio is trying to hold on to what he has by quickly apologizing.

Week 4 Countdown Review (ending 2/8)

This is the 4th Countdown, and the 4th #1.  There were no dominant singles submitted, as the previous #1's usually fall out of the running for the next Countdown.  Again, this week, is no different.....

Who would have thought?  There were 31 candidates that entered the Top 10 Countdown, and low and behold, who's fans came out to support none-other-than Alexandria/Arlington's very own, Cheif Merkh (@merkhaveli).  It was Merkh's second time on the Countdown  but with a different single, Orbit, and this time, he happened to come out with 16% of the vote, coming out as the winner, and much to his surprise.  You can hear the Top 10 Countdown on Episode #75 Untitled 33 of the P³ Entertainment Radio Show.

Though Orbit was selected by the editors of the Top 10 Countdown as a longshot, 31:1, to even place in the top 10, Cheif Merkh had enough support from his fanbase, whether he knows it or not.

The show of being humble and thanking his fans and followers, is one of the reasons why he received the votes into first place.  When an artist shows humility and thankfulness to those that listen out for them, they will show their support.  On top of an improving ear for beats, and improving delivery; the reward is a 1st place finish among those who may have been considered the odds on favorite to receive the majority of votes.  One of those favorites was the last winner, Blow Em, by Smoke Greene (@SmokeGreenDMV), which didn't even finish in this Top 10.

Cheif Merkh has much to thankful for, with this 1st place finish, as well as a new downloadable album entitled, MERKHOLOPIS, which can be downloaded HERE; he has laid the groundwork to start a movement.  It is rare to find an artist of Afghan descent in the game, and usually when there is an artist that comes from a different ethnic background, they use that as a launchpad for recognition; but not Merkh.  He simply grabs the microphone and does his thing; not mentioning his background in rhyme; only wanting to be recognized for his skill, not his bloodline.

Will he keep up the work with more material, promotion of that material, and finding a formula to gain exposure for his career?  Or is Cheif Merkh simply another rapper, who's making music just to make music, and will be here today, making music for his yard, and gone tomorrow?

Persistence and promoting the music is what's going to keep songs like Orbit in the Top 10, or even, played on the P³ Entertainment Radio Show.

If everyone on your team, including yourself, your fans, and followers vote, you can gauge your base.  Hustlin' for votes isn't that hard, simply ReTweet the link to the Voting Booth each week there is a Countdown, and that's all that needs to be done.  Don't allow that thing called an ego get in the way of not voting, not even for yourself.  You have to take pride in your music, whether or not you take the top position.  Simply campaign a little harder, and spread the word that you're looking for approval of your material from the fans and followers.  With the number of candidates on the ballot, and the announcements being sent out through Twitter to vote; no candidate should have zero votes.

There is no gold chalice or blue ribbon for taking the #1 spot on a weekly basis, but campaigning and getting your team, fans, and followers to vote for your work and actually seeing the results, the fruits of your labor is worth the acknowledgement and honor of being #1.

Though P³ Entertainment is relatively unknown to most, we create an alternate avenue to have your music played during a semi-professional broadcast of mainstream and independent music.  We attempt to bring an underground sound to internet radio and give a chance to independent artists that your local and national radio stations will never give a chance.  That is the benefit of submitting your music to the P³ Entertainment Radio Show, either as a regular play or as an entry into the Countdown.  That is the benefit of getting played on the show; another avenue to be heard and show that you do have a loyal following.  You never know who may be listening, and if you show consistency, that's when the majors may come knocking.
